Support & Advocacy Worker - Worcester Refuge

37 Hours per week

Salary of £23,097 p.a.

Short term contract from 1st August 2020 to 31st July 2021 (to cover staff secondment)

West Mercia Women's Aid (WMWA) are working hard to continue to provide much needed support for women and children affected by domestic abuse.

Despite the constraints of the current emergency, our Refuges are fully operational and are run in accordance with strict government guidelines, for the safety of staff and residents, including the provision of appropriate PPE.

We are seeking to recruit a Support & Advocacy Worker to work at our refuge in Worcester, providing essential support to women and children who have been affected by domestic abuse.

We are looking for someone who is................

  • Committed to the values of empowerment and equality
  • Passionate about engaging with residents, to provide them with the emotional. practical and welfare support to help make a real difference in their lives
  • Skilled at working both with individuals and with groups to promote understanding and focus on empowerment and confidence

your role will include...........

  • Providing individual support, risk assessment and safety planning to women living temporarily in a WMWA refuge
  • Offering advice to residents on budgeting, welfare and housing benefits, and assisting residents in obtaining and resettling into permanent accommodation
  • Liaison with external agencies and making referrals into other WMWA services
  • Casework management skills together with good written and verbal communication
  • Practical tasks such as ensuring the smooth running of the refuge
  • Car user essential

An understanding of the importance of maintaining profession boundaries is essential in this busy role

WMWA can offer you.........

  • 37 hours per week - fixed term contract to 31st July 2021
  • Salary of £23,097 p.a.
  • 25 days annual leave, plus Bank holidays
