Specialist children's worker - Worcester

15 hours per week: £21,083 p.a. FTE

£3,945 p.a. pro rata payment for 24 weeks

Short term contract for a period of 24 weeks (ending no later than 31st March 2021)

This work is commissioned for 24 weeks by Worcestershire Council, with funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG)

An opportunity to join WMWA to deliver a new service for children living in Refuge

  • Providing support and advice to children living in Refuge
  • Identifying resources for residents to use with their children
  • To make a difference by supporting those that look to us for support

The role involves.....

  • Attending refuge and supporting the children living within it
  • Providing advice, support and resources for the residents to use with their children
  • Engaging children and young people is assessing their situation and planning for support and safety
  • Assisting children and young people displaying harmful behaviour to understand positive and healthy relationships
  • Communicating effectively with parents/carers
  • Liaising with local schools and other services for children and young people
  • Working in collaboration with other agencies to facilitate joint working
  • Ensuring the voice of the child or young person is heard and central

You will have.......

  • A flair for engaging, empowering and inspiring children and young people
  • A desire to make a difference
  • Experience of delivering age-appropriate interventions
  • Good knowledge and understanding of domestic abuse issues
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of good practice in safeguarding
  • Experience of working with vulnerable and disadvantaged young people
  • A commitment to the values of empowerment and equality
  • Strong interpersonal skills and good written/verbal communication skills
  • The ability to maintain clear professional boundaries
  • Car user beneficial

West Mercia Women's Aid (WMWA) are working hard to continue to provide much needed support for those affected by domestic abuse.  Despite the constraints of the current emergency, our Refuges are operating in accordance with strict government guidelines, with provision of appropriate PPE to all staff and with safe working practices

wmwa can offer you

  • 15 hours per week - fixed term contract for 24 weeks
  • Salary of £21,083 p.a. (pro rata payment will be applied)
  • 25 days annual leave, plus Bank holidays (pro rata for part time hours)
  • Regular supervision and support sessions
  • Training and professional development opportunities
  • The change to work for an organisation that is accredited by Women's Aid Federation England as meeting the standards of excellence required for the domestic abuse sector
